Designated as an important national intangible cultural asset or the living national treasure in 2000
He succeeded the traditional technique of producing handmade washi from his father, the 8th Ichibei Iwano and he has devoted himself to producing handmade Hosho with his whole heart and soul. His sincere attitude toward perfect hand made paper, and to producing in the truly traditional technique is wonder. He always uses well-selected domestic Kozo as raw material for his paper. The stages of work; washing bark, boiling bark, draining lye, picking dirt, beating bark, kamidashi, scooping paper, draining water by pressing, drying, and the final are done following the techniques of ancient times. He produces everlasting, strong, refined, and elegant paper.
