Hal Wert teaches History at Kansas City Art Institute. Hal was Vice President of KCAI in 1988 when students there asked me to teach them karate and self defense. I made an appointment and met Hal (he was wearing a business suit and tie). I asked whether the school would allow me to teach and provide space and, without a moment’s hesitation, he said, “YES!” That is so rare. Carrie Riehl re-introduced us while she was my studio assistant and Hal and I have become occasional lunch buddies. He was a terrific model and eventually purchased the drawing. I also produced three gorgeous archival inkjet prints from the shoot (see end of this post).
